Tunnel grouting can be performed before, during or after boring/excavation. With pre-grouting ahead of construction and injection grouting during tunnel advancement, the emphasis is on ground preparation, mainly stabilization and minimization of water ingress. Pre-grouting facilitates safe and efficient tunnel advancement, reduces future operational costs associated with water pumpage and drainage, reduces impacts on the local groundwater flow system, and reduces risk of ground subsidence.
Post-grouting is often can generally be considered as rectification work rather than tunnel construction.
